Salary Range: $3,399.16 - $5,165.91

Job Description: Performs advanced social work duties under the limited supervision of the Unit Program Director and clinical supervision of the hospital Director of Social Services with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.  May function as a unit Social Worker and provide supervision to other Social Workers on assigned unit.  Serves as liaison between the patient, family members and outside community agencies and institutions.  Works to encourage family/COC participation in treatment and discharge planning meetings.  Acts as a vital member of the psychiatric treatment team on the unit.  Gathers and presents information regarding patient's environmental factors, recidivism factors, educational needs and discharge/aftercare needs.  Facilitates individual contact and group education sessions with mentally ill patients.  Serves as an active member of social work/unit committee as assigned.  Acts as a mentor to less experienced social workers on the unit.  Failure to perform duties in a competent manner could negatively impact social workers on the entire unit.  Must understand that duties, location of job assignment, and shift pattern are subject to change as determined by the administration to meet the needs of the hospital.  Must understand that duties may include exposure to blood or other potentially infectious material.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of principles, methods and practice of social work; the functioning of the treatment team within the psychiatric facility; of community resources, genetic, psychological and environmental factors that contribute to mental illness and knowledge of principles of patient and family interviewing and group facilitation techniques.  Ability to manage/organize multiple tasks of a caseload; advocate for patient's needs, formulate social assessments, assess environmental/recidivism factors, communicate effectively and participate in assigned committee activities.  Physical ability to perform PMAB (Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior) and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).  Ability to train or supervise others.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:

Licensed as a LBSW, LMSW or LCSW by the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners.
